How much time do you spend looking at a screen each day?
From smartphones to laptops, screen time is a part of everyday life, but it can take a toll on your posture, neck, shoulders, and overall comfort.
In this blog, our chiropractor shares 3 simple tips to help improve your posture, reduce strain, and keep your body feeling its best while using screens throughout the day.
1. Position Your Screen Properly
Keep your computer monitor at eye level and about an arm’s length away. When using a smartphone or tablet, raise the device closer to eye level rather than bending your neck downward. This helps maintain a more neutral spine posture and will reduce strain on your neck.
2. Take Frequent Movement Breaks
Avoid sitting in one position for extended periods. Stand up, stretch, and walk around for a few minutes every 30 to 60 minutes. Regular movement helps reduce muscle fatigue, improves circulation, and relieves stress on the spine. While taking these breaks, be sure to maintain good posture while you step away.
3. Strengthen Your Postural Muscles
Incorporate exercises that strengthen your core, upper back, and shoulder muscles. Strong postural muscles provide better support for your spine and help counteract the effects of prolonged sitting and screen use.
Good posture isn’t about sitting perfectly all day, rather it’s about maintaining healthy movement habits. Small changes can make a big difference in protecting your spine and supporting your long-term health.
